Never had mine apart so not 100% sure how they operate but thought it was a motor effectively moving a rack in the form of a long flexible coil within a tube that in turn rotates the drive spindles through a gear.
If that's the case and you have had the wheel box apart you have likely started the movement of the
drive wheel180deg offset.. So you will need to open it up again and alter the start point by 180 deg..

In the fairly recent past Landrover moved the wiper motor slightly on the bulkhead to improve the alignment of the drive rack, and in so doing also reversed the operation of the motor (i.e., the rack subsequently passes over the other side of the wheelbox gears to its original position). I cannot remember exactly when this happened, but I think it was around 2001 with the introduction of the TD5. Somewhere on the forum this is discussed but I cannot immediately find the thread.

If you have fitted (or been incorrectly supplied with) the early type motor, then exactly what you have described will happen (and I suspect this is what Martin is getting at with his post above).

If however you have refitted the original motor without disturbing the wheelboxes and it now runs backwards you have achieved something remarkable!

The change happened for the 2002 model year, early Td5s had the same setup as older vehicles.

The motor is the same, it is the drive gear that differs. As the wiper rack was moved from above to underneath the wheel boxes, the direction of movement was reversed. For RHD - on earlier (to 2001) vehicles the cable ‘pushes’ first. On later (2002-on) vehicles it ‘pulls’ first.
