Steering goes solid - 2014 110 2.2tdci
Strange issue I’m hoping to get some pointers on - Driving around normally, steering fine. Then, mid corner, the steering feels hard and almost locked for a 1 second before i force it round the corner. Then back to all fine for the rest of the journey. It almost feels like there is something obstructing the steering for that very short time that then clears. However, I’m also aware how heavy the steering would be if the power steering went off for that second possibly feeling like it’s locked up…… any of you lot had something like this? Could something be impeding the steering? Could the power steering be having problems?

Over the last 3 days I’ve done 4 fairly short journeys and it’s happened once on 3 of them

exact same symptoms on mine (only under power on Left handers) was the bottom intercooler hose rubbing on the steering column lower spline bolt. Local repairer fitted new column and steering box missing the obvious witness marks on the hose.

Thanks for that. I’ve had a “good” look and can’t see anything of that sort. I’m gonna go out again in a bit and have a proper look

Shove plenty of rust penetrant /oil on the steering shaft ujs then work round and round a few times.

Give mine a squirt of oil every time I do an engine oil change now.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’m changing engine oil in a few days so will be under the car. Drove it yesterday for just a few miles with no issue. I’m going to have a proper look all along steering column/rack and oil the hell out of it when I drop my engine oil.

Fingers crossed this is the solution. I like cheap fixes!

Many moons ago I had something similar happen going around roundabouts in my RRC.
Turned out to be a cardboard disk from inside a bottle top in the bottom of the reservoir.
Can't see it being your issue, unless the filter is missing from your header tank.
