United Kingdom 2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 DCPU Stornoway Grey
This is an interesting development, although I suspect it won't be easily available over here:

There are some interesting build threads and other developments appearing on the official Ineos forum too:

Ooooh very nice. I think they might sell a lot of those over here, Australians like their traybacks.

My daughter took these at an agricultural show in Northern Ireland. She also said "Button for diff lock is on roof". I wonder how many other people noticed that!

Luxembourg
I tried the Grenadier when it came to Luxembourg.

I actually liked it.

It drives very well. It doesn’t feel as heavy as it is!!

The fit and finish is “pretty good”. There are things that I don’t like. For example… I don’t like the latch on the boot door (when it is open). I am scared that it will easily damaged.

I didn’t feel that it was all that “cohesive”. Most of it feels nicely “agricultural” but the gearbox selector is straight out of BMW and doesn’t (to me) fit in with the rest.

Then I find the button locations (for example the diff lock button being on the roof console) doesn’t seem logical to me.

For me, that should be somewhere near the gear selector and transfer case selector.

Then… for us here in Luxembourg, the road tax for it is VERY high compared with the Defender (I was looking at the Petrol Grenadier vs the P400 Defender).

Then… for us… the final crunch was the height (non adjustable since no air suspension). It is just over 2m tall, and our garage at home is only 2m, so it wouldn’t fit.

We went for th Defender 110 XS P400 in the end and are very happy with it.

The dark one he is standing next to has a pick-up body (tub). The light coloured one in the centre background is a trayback.

I have read that the seats are very comfortable but to my mind they are a little impractical for the type of vehicle the Grenadier hopes to be. Wear and tear would make them expensive to replace. To my mind the Defender seat with the removable seat base nailed it.
I think Mr Ineos got side tracked and decided his replacement for the basic Defender needed some Range Rover style components for creature comfort. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

l think you have a valid point.

The original plan was a selling price of "under £40,000" but the vehicle has gone upmarket, with the cheapest five seat model over £70,000

Unfortunately l don't think the premium price tag works as well in such a niche market vehicle. The Utility market that lneos were targeting, isn't as wealthy as the Urban Family customer base. And they are all buying Defenders.

If JLR had sold the old Defender to Ineos with the rights to develop and sell it, would it be any different to the Grenadier of today? Probably the front would be different. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

In the very early days of New Defender design, the selling price was projected to start at £45-50,000.

Now, you will be lucky to get a 3-4yr old for that money.

I remember thinking that price was pie in the sky at the time, even back then that was cheaper than a high-spec double cab pick-up. To think they could sell something with a BMW 6 and rock solid build for less than Toyota could turn out a Hilux Invincible for was fanciful. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS
