Do you know what voltage the battery is sitting at rest?
There is the possibility of parasitic battery drain, I’m presuming you mean a kind of alarm or security device is fitted? Battery clamps need to be tight and grounding points also secure, clean and tight enough. These are some of the more basic issues, often the most common. Was the battery fully charged also before you fitted it? It could be low, or need a charge to fill capacity first. Hope some of these suggestions might be helpful. |

My car is a 1994 300Tdi, so not so different.
On holiday in France recently, we packed up camp, jumped into the car, turned the key and …… nothing. No clicks, nothing. My hard-wired battery monitor was showing “low” and the radio was stuck in a loop of powering up, I’d switch it off, it would power up, I’d switch it off etc…. (suggesting an intermittent power connection). The multimeter on both batteries was showing 12.4v. Then, after a few moments I tried again…. and it worked fine. It has worked fine every single time since then - about 3 or 4 weeks now. It had worked without a problem for many, many months before that. I was completely confident that everything else was fine - wiring, batteries, fuel, starter etc. So what? I had taken the steering cowling off a few days earlier to look at the wiper switch, and my best guess (which I haven’t looked at yet) is that one of the terminals at the back of the ignition was dislodged?? Maybe check out the connections at the back of the switch if someone’s been in there? Are you saying there is no ignition? When you turn the key nothing lights on the dash? The wiring is pretty simple on these. You’ll just have to follow the wiring and see where the issue is. Check for power at the fuse box then at different wires. I like to use a simple bulb tester but a multimeter would work too. Can’t believe it is anything too untoward. I can’t see how the Holley would cause this unless it was wired in badly and caused a short. Is it a new addition? Unless you are saying it is cranking and not firing…. Do you have an immobiliser fitted at all? |
