Any marks on the outside of the bottle? Like dried up white streaks? If so it is coming out of the expansion cap. If it stays at the one level leave it, provided it is within the lower/upper level margin. Usually if there is too much in it, it gets rid of the excess by the expansion cap doing what it is supposed to do. There is a lot of water in the cooling system so losing a tiny amount through the expansion cap will be of no concern. If the level suddenly drops below the lower level then you have a problem. There is only so much room in the bottle so any excess will be expelled. Like TIG UP says mark it at the slightly lower level and see if it stays there. If it does that will be your correct safe level. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

I had this problem and would say your cap is venting at a lower pressure than it should. There should not be any drop from the full mark. No evidence on my bottle but a new cap fixed it.

My coolant kept mysteriously disappearing with no signs of leaks, a new cap sorted it

thanks lads I'll keep an eye on it. By the way I understand that you have to use fancy XLC coolant in these motors. Apparently if you mix standard Holts/ Halfords stuff with it it does no end of harm to the cooling system

only because there is no 'hardness ' in it. I live in a hard water are and I wouldnt want the cooling system ending up like the inside of my kettle !

Coolant level will drop slightly, when measured cold, as the ambient temperature drops from Summer to Winter i.e.: if correct in Winter excess fluid will vent during hotter Summer and will then be slightly lower following Winter. This would be normal. Likewise if correct in Summer will be lower when measured during colder Winter. Normal Physics. LANDYWATCH
