Electronic fault - total electric failure
Defender 110 XS edition D250 - collected end of April earlier this year.

Driving today - hit with the following warnings randomly:
1. stop safely electronic failure detected
2. Suspension fault detected
3. Gearbox fault detected

(Along with other electronic alerts search as hill descent control not available)

Vehicle forced into neutral and can't reselect a gear, forced to stop.
Car won't restart - currently awaiting recovery.

Suspect a faulty alternator - has anyone experienced the above?!

Haven't heard of any other total breakdowns. Although one or two alternator failures have been reported.

What battery voltage is showing on your screen, if any?

I hope it's soon repaired, please update with any developments.

That sounds like they don't know what the fault is. l wonder if there's any update. l've got a few friends with Defenders, all but one MHEV diesel and none of them have had any issues with battery charging.

l know there's been a fair bit of it on the Grenadier

Apologies for not posting an update - only excuse is having an 11 week old!

I collected the car just over 3 weeks after the breakdown - with the 12v battery and DC/DC converter both replaced to supposedly resolve the issue.

It seems the DC/DC converter was the issue - but when I pushed the service team for an answer on what has caused this, the answer I received was only 'general wear and tear' - sure, after only 1,400 miles?!

Apparently there have been a few instances of this (within the Marshalls UK dealer group) - and it's been escalated to JLR.

I've requested a more detailed technical report which they have agreed to but I'm still waiting for this, have chased again this week.

The vehicle has since managed a 400 mile round trip without fault since then, though - so hopefully nothing further goes wrong.

l hope so as well, l shudder to think what this would cost out of warranty.

My local independent LR specialist has a lovely 2014 110 XS Utility just come in, and have offered me £15,000 plus that vehicle for my 2022 90 Commercial.

l have to say, l did think about it to the point where l am going to borrow it for a few hours to see what l think of it.
