G wagon - G turn
I'm sure I'm majorly late to the part on this one, but today I saw a video of a G wagon doing a G turn.....

Part of me was impressed, the other part thought "more systems that will fail when you need them most", BUT still, it's an interested feature:

Not watched the vid. Is this just the same as the Ford trail turn assist that locks the inside rear under full lock to allow the tyre to skid?

Cool. But nothing amazing. Trials vehicles have been doing this with fiddle brakes for 60 years or more.

Apparently it has an electric motor for each hub, so it can do those 360 deg turns by driving the wheels on each side in opposite directions, tank style.

Could there ever be a need for this feature or is it just for showing off to your mates?

Probably just youtubers showing off, Mercedes also has the Mercedes bounce on some cars which is intended to get you out of soft sand but watch this youtube short and you will see how it will get most of its use Rolling Eyes

@lightning, that was my thoughts. Realistically it's rare to find a deadend road that has enough width to perform something like this - in the UK at least..

I'd also be interested to know how it'd work on unstable/uneven ground. The Yeti - 110 Camper https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic90308.html

As mentioned above Rivian announced this on their cars over 4 years ago but I don't think they implemented it in production models

Chinese monstrosity manufacturer BYD have also demonstrated a tank turn ability

G turn
I’m looking forward to these arriving in the UK- hoping I’ll get my hands on them at Mercedes Benz world when I’m working down there.

The g-turn is possibly less useful than G-steer which plays with torque distribution and gives a tighter turning circle, I presume similar but in a slightly more sophisticated way to how the high spec Broncos do in the states.
