Rad cold after coolant flush
Hi guys,

So I recently fitted a new rad and thermostat and heater matrix on my 2.4 tdci filled up with coolant bleed the air out and the next day the coolant had dropped slight so topped it back up to the level

Took it for a drive around 8 miles but the rad isn’t getting hot getting hot air from heater but the rad still cold?

Am I not driving long enough for it to get hot or does it sound like a air lock? (Was around 30-40 min drive)

Cheers

Sounds like engine not yet reached full operating temperature, so thermostat still closed. Especially if you were using the heater to warm the cabin, with low external temperatures, and not too much load on the engine. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Thanks for replying I’ll take it for a longer drive with heaters off!

You want more like a 20 mile round trip and with the heaters off, depends on ambient temperature but it can take a while to get up to temperature.
Usually a couple of miles starts warming up, about 4 miles should be up to temperature but to fully heat up to maximum more than that.

hi all

my new OEM thermostat was totally faulty ( not opening) and the old one didnt open all the way, so after 2 new thermostats everything is back to normal.

original 86° stat fitted now that solved everything. Bow down Bow down Bow down

cheers T.
