Not the same vehicle but on a Jeep I used to own the discs would crack every time, probably due to too much heat build up from dragging the brakes too much when towing, I then changed to brembo ones and never had a problem again. I think they would last about 25k, or two sets of pads. I always used dot 5.1 as the boiling point is higher, but modern stuff probably has that anyway.

When DOT4 is concerned which is recommended the specs can vary quite a lot.
I went for Castrol React DOT4 premium, Brembo comes close I believe in specs. Many others have a much lower boiling point and some out there are quite rubbish to be honest. Defenders are heavy, even more so when towing, and brake fluid as mentioned is hydroscopic so takes on water over time so around 2 years is a good interval to change it. Max water content is around 4% IIRC, which you can test, but realistically you don’t want to go above 3% really. Last time I tested mine it was about 2.5% and is around 2 years old, so hence due a change now. You get be best braking performance under 2% moisture content, the nearer zero the better. No issues on my Disco 4’s.
Disco 5 and 110 D250 Hard Top I owned at same time, ironically both had the vibration at higher speed braking at similar times, and slowly got worse, can’t remember mileage but Disco 5 had more miles on than the HT,. The dealer did high light it with JLR but they were not playing, they just said wear and tear. The dealer did give some good will despite JLR being their usual customer focused selves. l did some braking tests from higher speeds and it doesn't seem that bad now. l will fit my spare discs if it gets any worse, and get the originals skimmed.

I had all my disco 5 discs and pads replaced at first service due to vibration. Initial response was jog on from JLR. I raised a complaint as the car only had 7k miles on it and they agreed to cover as a good will gesture. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

It’s a common fault on the smaller brake size as fitted to base models. At that mileage you’ll get nowhere with LR.
Best option is to replace the parts. |

My 2020 D240 110 had to have them replaced after 10 months and 22,000 miles and they'd already been skimmed. We tried to get them replaced under warranty as we'd heard it was a known issue but got nowhere. Hopefully the bigger brakes on my D300 will last longer.

I had the same problem, D200, 1 year, about 30 Tkm.
Sometimes it rains, other times it seems quite ok. As part of the warranty, they do not take... I don't believe in the original, when I change I will buy another brand |

Anyone knows the aftermarket brake pad and discs can be used? Brembo makes them?

I’m on my third set of front discs and pads (the original plus 2x replacements), first set at circa 4k miles then again at circa 11k miles, first set under warranty no issues with claim, second set were a battle with LR and dealer got the swap based on the 12mths warranty on the replacement discs. Very poor though and clearly not upto the job. Mines a D250 110
