Adding your photo.
Click image to enlarge That lump is used on Td5s and is a harmonic damper (reduces vibrations at certain speeds). Certainly your adjuster bolt is not that accessible. I never had to adjust a handbrake with the harmonic damper on. Is your handbrake lever too high when engaged? 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

I find a 3/8ths drive 17mm and ratchet is what works for me. Easiest way is to chock the wheels get a handy assistant to work the handbrake and then adjust into spec 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day

Thank you both I now know what it does and I’ve gone and got a 3/8 socket set and I can now access don’t know why I didn’t think of this I only had 1/2” set.
So handbrake has only 3 clicks. First click it still free spins second click it’s start to bind and 3rd it stops it turning by hand. Yet mot said handbrake needs adjusting should I give it a little adjustment or is it something else I’m missing Thanks again |

3 clicks sound right to me. When adjusting, lift one of the rear wheels (assuming you have a standard open diff on the rear) and ensure that there is no rubbing sound coming from the hand brake when you spin the wheel. Would also be good to check drum not getting too hot after a short spin. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

3 clicks sounds right.
3/8 socket sets do majority on a lr, Halford and bacho last well. Cheers James 110 2012 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |
