Guys -I've looked at lots of posts re upgrades etc and now have some vouchers to spend in a well known car place - Hal*ords.
Ideally want a unit to control ipod / iphone music - and bluetooth hands free - yes there are cheaper deals on web but I have vouchers for H - so will look there - I've spotted some sony Units that are on extra discount - Sony BTU3900 - anyone have any feedback on this unit Need to upgrade the speakers as well - - What would be reasonable ( front ) - for sensible money - Do not plan to spend a fortune or to get a system like the Discovery has but better than what is in just now - Defender 110 County SW Disco 3 HSE Freelander 2 HSE - SOLD going back to a car www.lothian4x4response.org |

I have a Sony head unit, not bluetooth, but I plug my iphone in the aux socket and it works as hands free anyway, personally I think Sony is one of the best brands out there, they like playing scratched cd's, where Alpine's don't!

That's interesting re the iPhone through Aux - hadn't thought of that - that could mean I can save some funds on a head unit towards speakers - Is there a max depth of speaker that fits the front -( i do not have air con ) also spotted some sony tweeters - on another site - on sale £20 down from £100 - Are all tweeters a standard fitment ? ( Sony XSHO3) Just looked at the cost of the Focal speakers - !!! Defender 110 County SW Disco 3 HSE Freelander 2 HSE - SOLD going back to a car www.lothian4x4response.org |

I have the older 3800, and the bluetooth works great, full ipod control, and USB slot that has my 8GB USB flash drive permanently plugged in.. All in all, it's a damn sight better than the original box. I've not changed the speakers, as I think it sounds OK.. Maybe I'll get around to swapping them out, but other bolt on bits are top of the shopping list! ... ,-------, .. I [__][_]|__ .. I __ |"_|"__| .. I have this radio bought at Norauto ...white brand ... aux input, usb input, sd card, dvd and cd reader ...100
no bluetooth though ... Click image to enlarge 1 pair of Hertz tweeters at the front, 10cm diameter Pioneer at the front and these Sony at the back Click image to enlarge and this subwoofer bought from WilcoDirect over there ... Click image to enlarge everything cost me 235 ... not very expensive for a head unit (100), 4 speakers (50), 2 tweeters (25) and a subwoofer (60) ... the result is the best sound I ever heard on a Defender!!!! Hi, so far the radio itsef had no problem. Playing random from a USB stick plays a certain sequence of songs and no SW update for that. The microphone is installed on top of the cover behind the steering wheel and is working fine. My voice appears slightly metallic on the other end, Wanted to try another microphone, but did not do that yet.

Hello,
I am also looking for a decent Radio unit that could replace the standard CD/Radio ... Just looking for something "simple" and easy to operate that can play MP3 and Audio files from USB-stick and/or SD-Card and that would hook up to the existing 4 speakers .... CD-Player is NOT really required .... Radio + USB and/or SD slot would be more than sufficient ... Any ideas? Best Regards, Axel |

The Kenwood does not have any cable in the front, the USB to connect the ipod is in the back, so are the Aux and the microphone.

I'd second the Kenwood as a good stereo. I previously bought a Parrot Asteroid which was fantastice (when it worked). The first one went wrong and locked up after 24 hours and the replacement lasted under a month. I gave up and got a refund on it as I didn't feel it was reliable enough between resets and even though though offered me a third I didn't want the risk.
I went to the local audio specialist and was going to buy the same Kenwood as AlpenAndes, however they had just got some of the later model in so I bought the Kenwood KDC-BT92SD. It does everything the earlier model does and looks identical but also offer SD card support with a slot behind the front panel. All the cables exit the rear and I routed them into the glove box. The Parrot bluetooth integration works well for phone calls and the phone book is syncronised to the head unit. Music can be played via bluetooth, SD card, USB, aux cable or integrated iPod connection. It also plays CDs but I just use a SD card or radio 95% of the time. And added bonus with the Kenwood design of all the cabling is A. that it's all hidden neat and not dangerously dangling and B. No risk of it being pulled of smacked which would do a lot of damage! Another thing which would look nice is if your HU is gloss black like mine is to have one of the gloss black centre dashes that Killer does. βοΈβοΈGod Bless the USA π¬π§πΊπΈ βοΈβοΈ
