Nope. Can go as big as you like as long as it's 12v and fits in the hole.

If your still using the std alternator its gonna be 35 amp or 45 amp, and that may not charge the bigger battery fully.
Bigger really isn't always best, if it was me i would get the best quality battery the series is designed for. 1953 80" 1987 mini city e 2011 90" |

It will charge, but it will take a bit longer. This is only valid for.mostly discharged battery. With good battery it will be the same, because it will need to charge only the amount of energy used during starting of engine, and it is the same, or possibly lower, because bigger battery => more power for starter => faster cranking of engine => shorter starting time => less energy needed. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo

Hello Stiff1
I have fitted these Silver 5000 Yuasa batteries to both our Defenders, + a Yuasa Leisure Battery to our Caravan. They review well, have the extended warranty + if it works… and I have no reason to doubt it currently, a quick battery condition ‘window’… green good… red bad. If you can get a Halfords Trade Card… 20% off Batteries… SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

Bit late to the party.
IMO bigger is better. Yes the 069 is a recommended battery and the 072 is just a bigger version. You don't say if it's petrol or diesel? Co-incidentally I've just replaced the battery on my Series 2a petrol. https://www.tayna.co.uk/car-batteries/varta/g7/ The 249 will just fit inside the battery tray, just check which way round your + and -1 terminals are and remember that the terminals should be inboard so the bonnet stay can't short it out. It'll charge it just fine. One of my fleet has a 5.7 litre diesel engine which needs a 1200 CCA battery to crank, and a teeny-weeny dynamo to charge it. A much bigger mismatch but it works perfectly. That's how it used to be. |
