I’ve come across this at a LR dealer, the correct filter part number is on the box in your picture. I.e LR030778, and is normally a darker filter colour with a hard black plastic top and bottom.
The parts guy said they had none in stock, however according to the JLR parts system the Freelander 2 (2.2) filter, part number LR001247 was the equivalent and fits the defender Puma 2.2. If you look at your picture of the actual filter it has LR001247 ( not LR030778) printed on it. I was not happy with this as the filter does not look as robust, I.e no hard plastic at either end and filter material does not look as good, so I was not paying a premium for a Lr one when a Febi filter specified for the Puma 2.2 looked like the LR030778 and was far cheaper. Febi 32103 oil filter https://partsfinder.bilsteingroup.com/en/article/febi/32103 So looks like they have been disingenuous and put a LR001247 filter in a LR030778 box ! They may say it’s equivalent as it does fit, but it is not the same in construction. Having said all that it will fit and no doubt work ok, but I think LR have pulled a fast one ! |

I prefer the genuine Ford ones. Seem better made than LR. WARNING.

I can’t comment upon P/N’s but the one I fitted earlier this year that was genuine was different to that one pictured.
More akin to the one described above, black plastic and more robust. (Better quality I’d suggest). Mine came from D44 as part of their Genuine parts service kit. When I had one previously, again it was the same type, black plastic ended and printed one end. Not like the one pictured. Has anyone done a swap out in the box on the side? Used a genuine printed box stuck an aftermarket part in? ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |

It’s a genuine LR filter, albeit one that is normally used in a New Discovery Sport - L550 , Range Rover Evoque - L551, or Freelander 2 - L359.
See https://www.duckworthparts.co.uk/landrover...erlr001247 According to the LR dealer parts department I visited you can also use it in a Puma 2.4 and 2.2. And when looking on line it’s shows as equivalent to the LR030778. However as we all know, it does not look as good quality as the LR030778 and should not have been put in the incorrect box. |

As said above it’s definitely a genuine LR filter ( Freelander by the looks of it) but not what we’re all used to the black plastic top & bottom. Just dropped the oil & filter and now have two spares left. This strange one & the proper black ended one.
