I've got the stock starter battery with a same physical size leisure battery alongside it under the seat box. I made the battery tray myself as a little project to practise welding. It all fits quite neat with the split charge behind. Obviously it leaves no space for the jack, chock.etc.
I've no photos to hand, but I did post about it on here years ago when I did it if you can be bothered trawling back though.my threads. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

Like Bluest, I've got a dual stock battery, which fitted my needs better than a pair of AGMs. Not being up to the welding, I bought a battery retaining plate from GMB. Its a bit pricey, but light and very tough:
https://shop.gmb-mount.de/DEFENDER/Elektrik/Doppelbatteriesys./ With two stock batteries, there is plenty of space at the back of the box for cable entry and a big split charge relay; and at the offside for cables and the like. On the top, there is still enough room for fat cables, inline fuses and a few other bits and bobs (I have a shunt and an insulated bus bar there). The only place where its all a bit tight is the inner side of the box. |

Dual battery is OK for a permanent camper. I went for a power station, it provides 12V, various USB chargers and 1kW pure sine inverter all in a compact package.
