Don’t think they are captive nuts - you should be able to get to them from under your wheel arch.
Mine are nylocs but may have been replaced 👍 Click image to enlarge |

Hi Screbble,
Thanks for that, I’ve sprayed the nuts underneath with WD40 hope that will work its magic. I purchased a rear step and they use captive nuts, I went to fit some front mud flaps and I had the same issue so had new flaps replaced at my last service, apparently they are secured with captive nuts As well. |

Hope all goes well.
Decent penetrating oil such as Plus Gas will serve you better than WD40 but the latter is a good start. You’ll find many Rivnuts on your Defender which are great when they work…. Fingers crossed you’ll get the seats out without too much trouble. |

You will probably have to remove the seat belt mountings and they can be a right pain. Thankfully they are fastened using spreader plates which you can see in my photo.
Make sure you give the area underneath a good wire brush before applying penetrating oil and also apply some from above |

Thanks, I’ll order some Plus gas, and wire brush the bolts.
