Defender TD5 Rear washer pump wiring
Hello everyone,

I'm sorry to post this as a separate topic, as i tried before in a less specific sense. I had some great help and advice, but haven't solved the final bit yet.

I am fitting a rear wash system (complete from scratch because it wasn't specified / fitted from factory). The rear door wiring loom has been purchased and trial fitted, along with wiper motor, arm, blade, pipe, jet etc etc. At the dash, the switch has been purchased and the connector for it was already there in the dash, plugged into a dummy switch. All good.

I have had a look at the reservoir bottle end and confirm there is no pump (now purchased) nor wiring loom / connector (that i can see) unless it's pretty well hidden.

My question is whether the wiring from the dash switch connector does make it's way through the bulkhead and is sat there on nearside / front somewhere? I am going to take off the dash top (maybe lower dash also) to have a look and see if I can trace the wiring. Just before I do that, has anyone done this before that can confirm whether the loom is there and or where it might be?

Thanks for looking.

Did this many years ago on a 2005 90 hardtop that was quite bizarrely factory fitted with full aircon system but no rear wash wipe system or heated rear screen! I seem to remember the washer loom plugged in to the main loom and I may have had to obtain a washer loom with twin plugs, however this was probably fifteen years ago!

Wow, A/C but no rear wiper or heated screen. I thought mine was a bit strange with aftermarket electric windows and heated electric seats with no rear wiper etc!!

I haven’t been able to find the loom itself yet, will have another go with more enthusiasm now 😊👍

Is there a large main loom connector lurking behind the dash or somewhere (to receive the rear wash look).

Thanks for the reply 👍

The rear washer plug is on the LH (UK passenger side) wing loom, right next to the front pump connector.

Front pump is 2 pin red with light green/black and black wires (C0008 below), rear pump is same style connector but black housing with black/light green and black wires (C0021).

I believe all the wing looms have the rear washer pump connector on them, there are only two variants which are with/without BBUS and headlamp levelling.

Behind the headlight is the best access.

Fantastic, thanks Martin. I’ll probably remove the reservoir anyway, so should be able to find it. 👍

Matty if Martin doesn’t, PaulMc if you look him up has made me looms up before, beautiful work, fairly priced and easy to install.

The reservoir can be a bear to get the screw headed bolts out of, go in through the headlight like in the picture Thumbs Up

Many thanks Nick.

I’m hoping the loom will be there, but I know where to go now if not 👍

Hi Martin, found it (I think). Thanks for your replies and knowledge. Do I take it that you do looms if needed?

Correct connector but wrong wire colours. That’s the alarm sounder connector.

Edit: yes I can and do make up looms Thumbs Up  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

martin do you still do the rear wiper loom, that works with the front wipers? We chatted about it some time ago. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

If you mean the little controller which runs the rear on a delay, and in sync with the front, then yes I can still do those Smile  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Hi Martin, I'm hoping to get back onto this, this weekend if I don't take off in the Storm!

Interestingly, my alarm still sounds even though i didn't replace this plug anywhere, it felt like it was loose when i discovered it, but it could well have come off from wherever it was attached I suppose.

Should the alarm still sound if this connector is loose as it is?

Found the rear wash pump connector today Martin, it was tucked away. Rear pump installed and working nicely. Cheers for guidance.
