Managed to use the somewhat drier weather to manoeuvre the roof for the pop top out and finish prepping it so we're now on the first coat of top coat coach enamel so things are starting to progress 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day

Been another busy few days off from work managed to get the roof outside and fitted some cargo tracking to the top this will allow us to mount solar panels to it maxtrax or the like and also plan putting some chequer plate down in between. This wont be to everyones taste but we have some ARB storm bags that are fantastic and it seems a waste to get a roof rack just to mount a few things plus keeps the height and weight down overall.

We also managed to Sound proof and Insulate the roof using dodo mat hex and thermo liner 10mm to help the Defender be less Defender like Laughing

A busy week on the Defender this week firstly we managed to attach the upper pop top frame to the the freshly painted roof this is bonded on with Sikaflex and uses the original fixing holes into riv nuts in the frame this was then married back to the lower frame and joined together. Once this was doe and we checked the operation of the gas struts we then set about cutting the perspex panel into the roof where the sealing strip is to fill the gap between the frame and the roof. We also managed to put in the front infill panel for above the windscreen to cover up the gap in the original roof and this was sealed in place.

On Thursday we took a trip over to Sussex to meet Nige from Xcess 4x4 to pick up a new rear diff for the 110 as it had started to get some play and get a bit noisier so i thought whats the point in having a camper if i cant go anywhere so bit the bullet and spent some cash and get a little upgrade too Cool

This was fitted along with some new Ashcroft drive flanges and some Ashcroft HD shafts of the 4340 variety.

After this we added the chequer plate to the top of the roof i know this wont be everyone's cup of tea but we use an ARB storm bag to good effect and this along with the cargo tracking will allow us to store a few items on the roof without adding the weight of a roof rack as well and also keeping overall height lower.

Once this was all done and the rain started again it was back to indoor jobs so we drilled the pop top frames for the guide pins for it to locate to and added some over center latches to keep the lid down followed by getting covered in more skiaflex sealing the gutters and panels in Laughing

Unfortunately not much to update this week as I had an accident at Work last week which has left me with a broken rib which is incredibly painful and means I can't even drive the 110 at the moment.

Managed to get hold of some Defender De misters though of a fellow forum member which should help the winter driving.

Yes they are very good at what they do and if you've got grafty99 's lower adjustable vents, combined together they do keep the door windows clear Mr. Green 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up.
