Looks like we're in agreement that the Grenadier is essentially a lifestyle SUV with a manual diff lock and not the "utilitarian 4x4" Ineos were planning to fill the void left by the original Defender. It has just as many electronic alarms and switches and safety systems as most other modern vehicles and is still going to be more "plug a laptop in to diagnose an error" than a 70 Series Land Cruiser. If people want to buy it because it looks rugged and manly, then cool. But a true successor to the Defender, which it was always touted to be it is not. https://instagram.com/bentheoandrews |

@Farmerben
Exactly my sentiments. What it's being marketed as, is not a true reflection of what/who it has been designed in mind for. Or the original plan was scuppered by costs when the realisation that plug and play parts were perhaps easier to come by than actual mechanical parts. Any manufacturer would not be allowed to build a defender like vehicle today. Safety regulations , emissions etc would scupper this . Modern vehicles have to be full of electronics to meet these regulations. That's the world we live in. 110 XS 250 MY 23 Gondwana Stone, Cold climate pack and towbar

"While on this note, who do you think spanks £50-100k on an old model Defender? No matter how you dress it up they simply are not worth that. But lots of people very willing to hand over the cash"
They can advertise them at these prices, but do they sell? My local specialist LR dealer had a pristine late model Puma 90 SW with only 16,000 miles for £26,000 and it was in the showroom for months. Finally sold last month |

I like to think of the Grenadier as a Tribute band.
If the original defender was the Rolling Stones then the Grenadier would be the stone Rollers. They would be younger, have better equipment and perform better. But, I would still want to see the original. If the Grenadier had been built on a modern CSP Bowler style chassis it would have solved all the problems regarding how much it can carry. I like it but wouldn’t swap my 110 for one. |

Have you driven the Grenadier, it might change your mind if you drive one. lf you're used to the old Defender you'll probably really like the Grenadier

I’m not saying I don’t like the Grenadier, I would definitely have one if I was in the market for a new 4x4.
I just think it is a Tribute Band. |

70 Series Toyota, you cannot buy them in Europe. Was looking at one of these in the Middle East, but without the possibility to bring back to Europe it was going to be too short an ownership to justify. Lovely vehicle like a brand new original defender but better. Manual gearbox etc. |

I put up a review by an Irish motoring journalist of the Defender 110 PHEV in the L663 section. He reviews it from a working farm vehicle angle. He quotes €123,000 as the price. That is for a working vehicle in petrol form, so the Grenadier might have a place after all. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Nobody is buying the PHEV 110 as a working farm vehicle unless they're trying to trick the taxman. https://instagram.com/bentheoandrews |

Money is probably safer at the minute. There’s a lot of grenadiers for sale with nearly 20k of list. The l663 after 3 years hasn’t lost much at all.

It’s a lovely thing. If they had sped up the steering rack just a little and got it to self centre better would be a 4 star reviewed machine. US forums have a company making a RTC damper. Will be interesting to see how that goes. 1951 80" S1 2.0
