According to Harry’s Garage (cut to 8m 20s), the one he had weighted 2960kg (including Harry who weighs 80kg) and he stated it is “600kg heavier than a current Defender”. That’s more than a Caterham 7. Ok so his had a few extras but the difference appears to be pretty stark. I wouldn’t be getting 40mpg out of my D250 if it weighed almost 3 tonnes.

I suppose we have a mind set. With the old Defender we accepted it for what it was, well I did. So I suppose any one buying a Grenadier would just have to accept it for what it is. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Not too sure how accurate Harry’s Garage is on such matters if I’m honest. I certainly wouldn’t be using it as a reference point. Let’s also not forget that something like a 2.2 litre Puma Defender offers up worse mpg than a 4.4 TDV8 Range Rover. Despite also weighing a lot less than the Range Rover. From what I’ve seen. People are reporting similar or better mpg from the diesel Grenadier than what you’d get from a manual 2.2 Puma. And the petrol is offering better mpg than what a Rover V8 D2/p38 would have managed. |

My P38 V8 4.0 has a catastrophic fuel consumption. Lovely car though!
I have owned several L322 V8 RR and Disco 3/4 in countries where fuel is cheap and typically they could do about 25-30 UKMPG down the motorway at reasonable speed, maybe 22 around town. My P38 on LPG does about 15 UKMPG around town and maybe 22 on the motorway. The only good thing is that LPG is half the price of Diesel so cost wise you can double the numbers to compare with diesel. (30-40MPG) AND according to France I am Crit'air 1 (from 6 to 0, with 0 only for electric). So effectively I am cleaning the air as I drive! |

There’s a review from an Irish motoring journalist on YouTube stating he gets 8 km a litre from the diesel grenadier compared to 14 km a litre from the D300 Defender.

Have not seen one over here yet. Unless you can tax it as a commercial, the road tax will be €2,400 per year, the same as the new Defender. Even if you buy a cheaper commercial N1 version, you will still pay the €2400 road tax unless you can prove it is for business and that is hard to do. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

But why the comparison, they are such different kinds of vehicles. Expecting the same mpg/performance is just misguided IMO. |

Where are you getting 405kg from? From Parkers for a TDV8 Vogue SE: L322 = 2580kg L405 = 2456kg |

Never understood why people worry about fuel economy when they've bought a three tonne brick on heavy chunky tyres and with a transmission that adds in extra friction. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

Totally Agree!
If you make a rational evaluation of the cost of a car we probably all be driving very simple and cheap cars. People however buy on emotion (so do I, I own a defender and a P38), or based on what the neighbours drive, or whatever status they want to portray at the golf club (me notsomuch) You can also save a lot of fuel by simply driving less, making your journeys with a bit of forethought. I quit going to the shops a long time ago and work from home more. I easily halved my fuel consumption! |

I also fail to understand why people persist in comparing the Grenadier with the current Defender, since they are as chalk and cheese. Utterly different vehicles for utterly different purposes and markets.

What market/purpose is the Grenadier designed for and can those markets afford it and are they the ones buying it? https://instagram.com/bentheoandrews
