2013 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 DCPU Keswick Green

Puma lights left on warning bing?

My 2013 plate DCPU 2.2 Puma does nothing if I take the key out and leave the headlights on accidentally (except drain the battery!)
My pals 2016 plate Puma panel van pings a warning if he does the same- just noticed this weekend.
Have I got a faulty binger? If so, what needs replacing/ adding to give me the same reminder?

Can be retrofitted, I’ve never seen the point it never has happened to me in many many years.
Though if you have lots of external street lighting where you happen to park is much more of a issue I could see that as being, and or driving off with lights off too but that is a different matter.

But yes. Can be easily retrofitted. No Guts, No Glory.

The standard wiring on my 2007 vehicle has a relay which means that the headlights are only on if the ignition is on, so it is not possible to leave them on when you leave the vehicle. It is possible to leave the sidelights on.

Details from the carbuilder description.

LIGHTS LEFT ON WARNING BUZZER

This little buzzer will end the pain of a flat battery after leaving the lights on.

Here's how it works: When your lights are on they feed 12v + to terminal 2.

When your door is open, the door switch makes an earth connection to terminal 3.

If your ignition switch is on, the buzzer is silent but when you turn your ignition switch off

and the door is open the buzzer activates.

Three 1/4" male spade terminals.

Wiring:

Terminal 1 - 12v+ from ignition switch

Terminal 2 - 12v+ from side lights

Terminal 3 - through door courtesy switches to earth.

Every time I get out of mine I walk round the front to see if the lights are on.

It's just a habit now, I've done it for years.

Drives my wife mad as I only do this after first faffing with the various security things!

I find the lights switch close enough to the ignition that automatically ‘feel’ that the lights are still on. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I agree - it’s actually slightly difficult removing the key from the ignition switch with the headlight switch on main beam. I think it’s another Land Rover “aide memoire” which was purposefully in built at the design time. They could have installed a bong or buzzer warning aid, but what would be the fun in that? Manual override much better and more reliable.

I find it mega relaxing that the car makes so little pings, ringing etc.

I could even do without the fuel-reserve ping as long as it is illuminated!

Mine gives one "bong" when the light comes on. That, as far as I know, is the only intentional electronic noise a 2007 2.4 Defender makes, and it is quite enough. That one is useful.

My old 90 was even better, as the low fuel warning light used to start flashing before it gets low enough and illuminates all the time. Probably not intentional
