Works the same in the UK but only if you agree to it. I get 30 days notice of new premium to switch.
For my 2016 110 XS SW, it's about £300 from One Call. That's in rural Yorkshire, garaged at night. Business use included. |

Ah, that sound more reasonable. My impression was, that you had to actively renew each year and could end up with no insurance. Then Jerry's and others' case was "just" about getting a lower premium (no offence, just trying to understand the system)?

Most companies offer renewal each year (and increase their premiums) but A-plan, a major broker for defenders, has declined to renew mine and others this year. So we are scrambling around with only a couple of brokers (their associated companies) now offering insurance.

Ok, I see. Then maybe it's just the wording. Here we're not "offered a renewal" which we then accept or decline. It's just auto-renewed / extended if you yourself don't actively cancel by 30th Nov. If the isurer doesn't want you anymore, they have to cancel the contract, but that's usually only the case if your indiviual case became too expensive. Thanks again for the intercultural insights

Just renewed with Howdens/A Plan.
Call started with the difficulties of insuring Defenders and the rising cost of Insurance. Was expecting to be told sorry no can do, or an extortionate premium After removing the 500 Business miles I had on in just in case my Wife needed it for attending a birth in inclement weather. The Business miles also required me to take out a multi car policy. End result I ended up with a cheaper premium than last year. My 2014 110 hardtop is with A Plan/Howdens. It has various practical mods (nothing cosmetic) and a BAS 170 remap, with the hoses and intercooler.
Last year I paid £335. This year, the best they can do is £610. I said I'd think about it, but after reading this, I'm probably going to have to take it. The daft thing is, it's now on SORN, has perhaps done 200 miles in the last year and I'm going to sell it when I can muster the enthusiasm, as I've retired and I don't need it any longer. I think I can feel the enthusiasm building rapidly now. Our (Fiesta) car insurance renewal was £1 more than last year. Is there anything left in Britain that isn't a rip-off? |

We are currently with NFU for our 2015 Double Cab. I dread to think what the renewal price will be in July. Our daughter, who is 30, has just had to pay over £1000 for her Evoque with 13 years NCB, which is double last year’s premium. They really have got us over a barrel haven’t they?

They have. I managed to get mine down to just under £600 with a bit of grovelling earlier on today, but as I decided to pay it in monthly instalments, it's going to end up as nearly £700. I really must sell it.
The lady at Howdens said most of their insurers won't touch Land Rover vehicles at all now. |

l was reading through this thread with interest, the insurance on my 2022 90 HT went up from £300 to £700
What amazed me was some people managed to insure old style Defenders for £50,000 and £60,000. My local LR specialist dealer recently sold a 16,000 miles Puma 90 SW for £26,000 and they've got an unmarked 110 Puma SW at £29,995 l've been looking at a beautiful 22,000 mile 110 USW XS at £37,995 When l had my pristine 110 TD5 l couldn't get anyone to value it over £18,000. How are you getting agreed values of £50/60,000 with your insurance? |
