That would mean an awful lot of uninsurable vehicles over the next 12 months...

Yep. It's an absolute joke. I wouldn't mind; this isn't even about trying to get the best deal... I can't even get a quote, which means I have zero options other than to sell the vehicle, which I don't want to do. Fuming....

Did you have any success with getting insurance ? Just asking as mine is due for renewal next month and is a modified 2015 110 Adventure SW. thanks

(Martin - might be worth moving this thread into the INSURANCE section)

I wonder if there is more going on here. The Op seems to be a little absent from the thread.

I've just run a Compare the Market comparison for a 65 plate hard top 90, parked on a drive, 5 yrs NCB and remapped. Lots of quotes back. Cheapest £952, although there are lots of silly ones and the excess rate is high on most of them. But certainly not uninsurable.

Would a non hard top and 2016 plate make a real difference here? Or is it something specific with the ops vehicle/reg or personal details?

Admiral re insured mine yesterday for £328 on a restricted 3k per year policy with a £250xs. Although I do have 21 years NCD, a very clean licence with advanced qualification and i’m just over 55.

I did the usual compare van insurance search for the best price and they started at £260 per year, but from insurers I’d not heard of, Admiral I’ve used several times before so although a little bit more expensive they got my business. Ride like you stole it!!
If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do…

I thought these days the norm was not to bother insuring....

don't you just get £60 fine and a few points.....overall works out much cheaper.

UK / Britain Rolling with laughter .....not just trying to get insurance.

I had a 100% increase in premium this year. when i shopped around no one could match my current insurer so i had to bite the bullet.

He did mention to me on the phone that Land Rovers are currently difficult to insure and they have asked if even my D2 can be garaged over night

NFU will insure new Defenders with keyless entry, they just charge for it.

I was quoted £4200 for mine two weeks ago. I stayed with Admiral at £2600 despite it being double my existing premium £1300, it was still the cheapest and nothing had changed in our personal circumstances. Comparison websites were from £6k -£7k. Shocked

I'd double check they got the right. It seems odd Thumbs Up

I’m not sure if it’s a north/south thing or something, but I’m based up in Yorkshire and the premium on my MY23 90 is £420. That’s with Hastings.

My 2013 90 was about £320 with all mods declared via LV.

I just renewed with Lancaster.

Premium went up by nearly 5o% so I called and asked what they could do as I didn't really want to start calling around and they effectively dropped the increase and I ended up paying just a fraction more than last year.

They also up sold me a guaranteed valuation for £18. I've not completed the process yet, but given how much I have spent on my truck I think its good to know what I'd get in the event of a total loss. TD5 hardtop to Puma inspired Poptop - my build thread

Enquired today with my broker about my 2005 Hi cap, they quoted £686 for no business use, if I insure it for business use its £380, you figure.

Ok, here's my experience for renewing.

MY2015 110 Adventure SW, replacement value 60k, modified with winch, spare wheel carrier, spot lights and a few other minor additions. (no engine remap or suspension changes)
kept on road, Cardiff, limited mileage <3,000pa
I'm low risk - never claimed or had an accident etc

Current insurer A-plan - declined renewal (combination of too expensive, too modified, too new)

Lancaster - no options (too new and modified)
Brentacre - nothing
Connect a Quote - nothing
Footman James - nothing (classic only)
Heritage - nothing (classic only)
Keith Michaels modified 4x4 insurance - No (too new, too high a value)
Green light - No (only vehicles upto 30k)
LV - No (too modified)

Adrian Flux and Sterling (similar options) could quote. Either wanted Cat 1 thatchams fitted (PIA) but then £400 premium, OR no Cat1 and £1200 premium with £950 excess....

almost lost hope and started filling out a profile on Motorway (felt sick doing that)

last try NFU mutual direct (after a recommendation on here). modifications and replacement value no problem...sensible excess, including home start breakdown, protected NCB, £675 and interest free payments (better than last years A-plan by £200). Taken this out and deleted my motorway profile!

I hope this helps others save some time with a 2015/16 Defender.... so not impossible to insure but blinkin difficult.

If older, modified and cheaper to replace, then far easier.... is my take home message.
Maybe if I had a garage/ drive it would be easier.
