Thanks i thought i recognized the Dormobile! I did almost go for one as they aren't far from home but wasn't sure my tall frame was going to sleep comfortably in the bed 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day

Do you know who had it originally? I used to drive a very similar Tdci 110 for Western Power, but I don't&t think this is one of theirs. 2011 110 USW

Thanks for all the replies nothing much to report so far as I've had to work on my daily driver instead but managed to get the first coat of etch primer on the roof 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day

So not much progress to report on the Defender this week as the weather hasn't been friendly for such activities and having to rebuild the cooling system on my daily couldn't be put off any longer so here is a brief history of my previous Land rover exploits.
Click image to enlargeD2 on the Purbecks by Tom Bayford, on Flickr How it started 11 years ago a 2000 Discovery 2 Peasant spec this was my first foray into Land rover owner ship and had a great time greenlaning in it and having alot of adventures and also showing people what it could do as back then people didn't realise what TC could do. Unfortunately it met its end as the tin worm got to it and had a few other niggles and a mate put up a very tidy D2 for sale which became Disco 2 Number 2 Click image to enlargeFB_IMG_1634040578171 by Tom Bayford, on Flickr The red disco was my first foray into Automatic car ownership and will probably be the last or until i am forced into another one! This one was an ES and was a very comfortable drive having ACE and was a very good off roader but unfortunately it would only be a few months of ownership as apparently BFG ATs dont like damp roads and smooth man hole covers but it did start and drive onto the recovery lorry after being put on its roof! Click image to enlargePXL_20211017_104419857 by Tom Bayford, on Flickr Next up was my Black D2 Commercial after picking it up after buying it blind of Ebay with 165k on the clock i went to town with it and built it up into a very capable greenlaner tourer as i used to spend much of my weekends organising green lane trips out and about around Dorset and Wiltshire. This one was a brilliant motor and i loved it and had a great time with it but unfortunately one night on my way home from work an old lady decided to drive into me at 30mph which meant the end for the poor disco gutted doesn't even cut it Click image to enlargePXL_20221027_132452630.MP by Tom Bayford, on Flickr Next on the list was a new daily driver we bought for me and my wife to share as the village we lived in suffered from bad flooding and snow so while i could get to work in the disco fine the wifes retro VWs struggled so we bought a nice Freelander 2 TD4 HSE fantastic car was a great drive for a land rover! But it wasnt meant to be as with most things realised we couldnt afford to keep it and have all the other projects on the go so it was sold to fund the pop top build on the 110 Click image to enlargeIMG_5818 by Tom Bayford, on Flickr This is what i call the replacement discovery as i bought it to replace my commercial Disco and most of the good bits left on the commercial disco went onto this one as i bought it from a bloke who butchered it a little bit doing his own repairs so i spent a lot of time putting things right and swapping over the goodies it took us on some good holidays but again the realisation of keeping a Disco a defender and a Freelander on the road and working long hours a week came to me one day that i couldnt keep up so ended up selling it to a good mate and it now lives its life in Devon. Hopefully that hasnt bored you to death but its definitely making me realise i will just stick to the 110 now 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day Build thread:https://www.defender2.net/forum/post1024784.html#1024784 |

Many thanks for sharing your land rover life so far
It's a shame with the Discovery's that you had but the last one's number plate rings a bell, as i might have seen it down this way and the red one you had, had a Cornish plate Didn't bore me at all, it was all very interesting 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper. Clayton. |

Some good progress was made on the Pop top frame this week in the dry spell we had on our days off(when will it stop raining?)
We managed to fit the sealing strip around the lower frame this is sealed on with Sikaflex and held in place with rivets every 150mm and this provides a seat for the foam gasket witch we applied around the top frame and we have now married the two halves together. Click image to enlargePXL_20240227_161728113 by Tom Bayford, on Flickr Also managed to finish repairing the roof that will be used on the pop top repairing some minor damage and resealing the joints this is now ready for a the coach enamel once i have drilled the holes for the cargo tracking i am adding. Click image to enlargePXL_20240227_140116107 by Tom Bayford, on Flickr As a a final touch we added the gas strut brackets and gas struts so we can finally see what we will be left with Click image to enlargePXL_20240227_162810097 by Tom Bayford, on Flickr 110 Td5 Ex Utilities slowly converting into a pop top camper one day Build thread:https://www.defender2.net/forum/post1024784.html#1024784 |
