Missed this thread the first time, so first cup of tea in hand read it from start until now. Great morning read.

Wonderful 110, congrats, and you’ve really done a nice job upgrading it.

Made me miss mine, and the Series, but not the constant jobs to do Mr. Green …saying that, my other classic makes up for that Rolling Eyes Laughing Why do we do it to ourselves?!

Thanks for the kind words

I don’t mind the constant jobs, and the blank canvas it was when I brought it.

If I think about it if there are constant jobs then it makes me look after it a lot more than if nothing ever broke.

I have had it two years now, and never let me down, yep 3 oil changes, one vcv (still waiting to verify if it’s solved the power loss issue) and the rest has been fitting upgrades.

Also still need to get my sub wired in as I miss the bass, but still need to soundproof etc also. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

So been some time since an update here.

Today was the annual inspection of the defender in Spain, it failed due to me having nolden v1 headlights although perfectly aligned etc not allowed to be fitted due to law change in Spain April 2023.

Note it’s passed the last 3 years with no issues.

Yep they are e1 marked, and totally legal in all Europe and even fitted to some defender from the factory.

Spain says no.

So looking to see if I can legalize them, or they get sold and I go back to a std light with a standard bulb (the candles). As you can fit a led bulb but only a homologated one, issue is nobody sells a homologated one in Spain. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

So after close to 2 months (two months next Friday) I have the paperwork to actually mount my Landrover Nolden headlights and the Wipac front indicators and sidelights, also got a garage report included (as a normal person is not allowed to work on cars here, and has to be qualified to issue paperwork.). Basically 1 and a bit side of A4 paper with letters on was €484 to get them legalised.

Now all I have to do is manage to get a re-test slot before next Friday, or ill have to pay full price for the retest. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

Only needed as they changed the law last April.

It’s crazy here they don’t want you to mod the car, each time you do you pay. Lots of people take all the mods off before the inspection then put them on after. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

So its back on the road, legally.

What was needed to be done was put the wipec led' lights on the vehicle documentation, along with the led headlights. Cost for this was €400, now that seems steep to me, to get a laboratory to look at the EU holologacion documents for the lights, and say if they can be fitted to my vehicle.

Delving deeper into it, it seems there is a min cost, and I was not hitting it, so I asked if I could legalise my front seats (Recaro sportster cross CX in leather) that got them thinking but they managed to do it, some rule that you can only install seats newer than the vehicle, although they were an option in some years for landcover looks like they were never allowed in spain, but paying the €400 euros gets me over this hurdle.

Next was the other issue, I needed a garage to install these items, and provide a certificate for doing this, anybody in the know knows the turn/indicators are 2 screws each, headlights are another few either side, and seats are 4 bolts per seat. But still needs an official certificate by an approved garage. Again one was managed to be acquired for €50 so total €450, but then add IVA (21%) and the extra charge for the adding items to a annual check which was approx €10.

So adding simple led lights to the front of a defender was €554.50 but I did manage to get my seats legalised into this price Smile

Now lets see what they change law wise this year and what it costs me for the next annual test. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

So still got a vibration in reverse, which after speaking to experts think it could be my center diff starting to break down, I have a transfer case ready to fit, but as normal whilst you are in there jobs will do a clutch and slave cylinder change, also change the output shaft, as no idea if its original or been changed in the past, I know the transfer case has been off a few times in the previous owners time, to fix leaks (still leaks) So change the case to fix that Smile

Also replaced all 4 brake disks from LOF, whilst I am waiting for other parts to arrive. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

If practical, inspect your existing output shaft before stumping up for a new one. I was sure mine would need replacing after 17 years and nearly 100k. Turns out my original one was like new still. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Would love to be in a position to pull it apart inspect and if needed order problem with Spanish customs at present things are taking 3-4 weeks to be processed from what I see personally. So going for the replace if needed or not route and whilst I am there swap clutch etc Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

my buddy was right about law changes, about modifying motors. Its looking like the governments a cross the world practically, are trying to get the old cars off the road, by stop you modifying them.
All the new cars, have LED lights, so why the hell can they just say ok just allow LEDs, across the board. the house bulb is now LED, the common old school bulbs gone, along with the energy saver ones. So why can the automotive not move that way, across the board.
As for MOTs, its looking that way in the UK, MOTs are getting very strict. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
