You’ll often find commercial van wheels have been quickly sprayed silver and not properly done either. 6 months later on steel rims they’re all rusty. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

You mean on the Defender?
My Transit wheels soon rusted despite regular treatment with WD-40 |

Not surprised they rusted. WD40 is easily washed off. Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy. |

Yeah. I sprayed the seams of the steel wheels on my new Defender as that's where they seem to rust.
This time l used a wax based product. The wheels still look perfect on their second Winter. |

This gives me serious anxiety! Is that just dirt, paint flaking or almost catastrophic failure!? Click image to enlarge It doesn't look like this bendy bit of metal is taking it's job particularly well.. |

Just rust and flaking paint on a weld seam I think. That was 75,000 miles ago and it hasn’t fallen off yet anyway!

This seems to happen on most vehicles. lt takes a long time before any structural corrosion develops.
However You can stop it from happening by spraying some clear rust inhibitor wax. Here's mine after two Winters. l used a product called XCP rust inhibitor but something like ACF 50 will do the same job. Click image to enlarge |

Just adding my name to the list. May 2023 P400e XD HSE and noticed early rusting whilst washing it yesterday. Booked in with the dealership to assess but they tell me they did a warranty replacement for the same problem a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the feedback - I would be content with that too and it saves me the job and expense of buying some Hammerite.

The orange one "Rust blocker"
l used the aerosol can but that trigger spray should be okay and it's cheaper. |

Ugh, mine are going now. Tried to get them done during my 2 year service but magically nothing happened, no comments, no refusal, just a distinctly blank looking service bill..
I called them and they said something about them being supplied with covers now so they don't replace the hooks!?? Not sure what they were on about, but it sounds like I wont be getting them replaced on warranty. And walking around the pre-owned section at Group 1 North London, I saw 3 Defenders with hideous looking rusty tow-eyes, I could almost smell the tetanus.. Come on folks, get the apprentice to give them a sand and a new lick of paint.. Click image to enlarge |
