Spring came out of friction plate most likely, especially if there is no sign of fluid leaks and clutch feels like normal from a hydraulic sense.

Outside chance it could be the master cylinder, remove cover & get someone to press pedal and look for disturbance in the fluid (bypassing seals / leaking into footwell) Good luck & let us know what you find Keith |

I had exactly the same symptoms on my 2012 110 2.2 last year. New clutch im afraid. I did the output shaft whilst everything was stripped down. Good luck

I had my clutch fail without much warning.. Maybe a few noisy gear changes now and again in the preceeding months but then suddenly just very difficult to engage any gear when the clutch was dipped..
When I took it out one of the springs in the friction mate just fell out of its housing.. The spring had a gouge out of iylt and part of the housing had been torn off.. You can maybe make it out from this photo.. Bottom left spring Click image to enlarge |

Ickle - That’s the one I had hoped it would be, on mine it needed replacing anyway so I did replace the MC. But in the end it was the actual clutch, which of course then included the new slave to be fitted too.
I have the; Sachs Transit 4x4 clutch in mine with the Gen, later 2.2L Slave and Gen MC. I do like this clutch, it has less slip, a little more heavy duty but not heavy. I’m pleased with it so far. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Yes, AFAIK.. The clutch was original.. On a 2014 registered 110 with around 48000 miles.. I've got another picture of the friction plate and the inside of the pressure plate.. You can see it had been rubbing.. The loose spring is the pictures is the 2nd spring(internal one) out of the plate.. I didn't think any of that would have been possible.. But obviously was.. I had fitted a redboost clutch servo shortly after buying it which may have altered things.. But I thought it was a simple 1:1 mechanism and couldn't alter the length of stroke🤔 Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

Not only possible but very common. Early Puma clutches were absolutely terrible, my 07 had (at least) three replacements under warranty in three years and fewer than 40k miles. I've subsequently fitted two more and have one waiting to be fitted, although to be fair the current one (genuine LR) has now done around 130k miles. The next will be a Transit 4x4 clutch, not a LR one.

I had no idea...
The main issue for me was clutch fluid contaminating rather quickly.. Which I thought I'd try and sort at the time my clutch failed.. I had tried flushing the system when the servo went on but it was mucky again fairly quickly😒 I fitted a LOF kit when it failed.. It wasn't branded as heavy duty or anything like that.. I hope I'm not left regretting not doing a bit more reading/research, and asking for opinions🤞 |

The forum has been much quieter on clutch failures in recent years which suggests to me that the more recent driven plates have improved, it remains however quite unusual for a modern high-speed diesel engine to have a sprung driven plate (rather than a DMF).
We should however probably be thankful that JLR/Ford opted for a sprung plate since, problematic as it may be, it is less problematic than the appalling DMF setup on the TD5. |

Ahhh dual mass.. I had the mk7 transit at the time ford were having issues with early failures.. Thankful that mine was never an issue.. I came to the conclusion at the time that the failures, were as much to do with the use the vehicle was put to.. And I suppose they eventually improved quality.. I'm Not sure if its, still as big an issue??
