Body Removal 109 - For Chassis Swap?
Hi guys,

I am needing to put a new chassis on a 109 (along with lots of other bits inc inner sills and footwells). It would be way easier to do this if I can lift the body off in one go and get the new rolling chassis together. This is what I have done with defenders.

Before I put it on a ramp - has anyone done this on a Series 3 109 and any difficulty over and above a Defender chassis swap (by removing the body in one rather than stripping it down).

Any advice welcome - many thanks!

In that case behave just the same as you would if it was a 110 Defender SW, USW, or double-cab, and lift the body as one. I'd remove the front wings then lift the bulkhead and body as a unit.

If it had been a pick-up or derivative thereof I'd have recommended dismantling the body since it lacks any rigidity.

I’m sure you are aware on the station wagon that the C posts can rot terribly and where the floor and upstand meet can corrode badly as well. If they are all good the no problem but my expectation would be if it needs a chassis change it likely needs new b/c posts and rear floor.

That would be a job/s that requires a rear end strip down. 1959 S2

Very good point - luckily these are fine on this one, just the chassis and one footwell needs replacing so far hence hopefully far less man hours if I can keep the body in one and just lift it up whilst building the new rolling chassis.
