If I was on hols in the States/Dubai I'd love to drive one of those big Fords - but surely they are just too big for European roads? (& tastes, for that matter)

You mean they're not that big/wide?
It looks massive in that pic... although apart from the (fairly narrow) Series, and the other huge Series(!) there's not much to give it scale!
