Coolant must have been into cylinder & cylinder pressure into coolant, but it was tiny amounts. Main leak was split radiator caused by faulty cap that over pressurised the system.
There was never any trace of coolant in oil or in exhaust. My €5k bill roughly breaks down as €2k French recovery to home, €2.7k head, rad, turbo, expansion tank, cap, gaskets etc etc €300 locally made anaesthetic, mainly red. All good now though! For an engine that has done 250odd K Km inside was spotlessly clean, all of the compression/burn trace (don't know how to describe it) on the pistons was uniform and even the original honing marks are visible on the cylinder walls, the last 'old' engine I can remember playing with in my yoof was probably an old A series in a mini and you could hide a penny in the wear ridge at the top of the cylinder wall! |

If a new cap worth looking at a genuine IVECO cap, part number 99489567.
