Grease nipple for water pump
Just bought a Proline replacement water pump for my 200tdi. Is this small hole for a grease nipple or just a drain hole?

Usually there is a drain hole, so that if the seal leaks, the bearing does not fail.
But from your picture in the gallery, looks like hole is on the side? 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Thanks for your quick reply. This hole is definitely beneath when it’s installed which makes it an odd place for a nipple fitting.

That’s because it’s not one, it’s a drain hole as above. When water leaks out, you know the pump is failing.
