Glow plug warning light timing
The glow plug warning light seems to be taking a long time to go out, up to 30 seconds is this normal? or is this a sign the glow plug timer/relay is on its way out, its a 300tdi.

any advice appreciated

I’d say it’s a sticking relay or a short in the glow plug wiring or a plug causing the issue.

Start with the first as it’s easier to determine (and cheaper to replace).

Tbh I tend not to cycle the pre-heat unless there’s a frost or the van has been unused for some time (and haven't had an issue with that).

If you go start thro’ the heat position on the ignition does it come on and stay on?

Either way if it’s staying on it may cause issues with the loom or plugs in the end. Ian

30 seconds doesn’t sound like an excessively long time if it’s cold.

30 seconds sounds like a long time.
I don't have a timer on my 200tdi glow plugs but I hold the key for 5-10 seconds and it always starts at the touch of the key. BORG - Bucks & Oxon 4x4 Response Group

I spent two years pre-heating my 200 TDI, only to discover that the glow plugs weren't connected, not even a wire! I guess they are not essential!

Resolved by fitting a new glow plug timer, everything back to normal now.
