Lights operation
Has anyone been able to alter the operation of lights using the GAP tool?
l find the operation really over complicated.

For example

The DRL's won't turn off, unless you turn on the headlights and then move the switch to off, then everything goes off.
l realise this is U.K. law but l would sometimes like side lights instead as it means you've got rear lights as well.

During the day you can't turn on the sidelights while driving. You can turn them on while stopped but when you move off they turn themselves off.

Bizarrely it will let you turn off all the lights at night, which is much more unsafe than stopping you from turning off DRL's in the day!

At night you can turn on the sidelights no problem.

The headlights turn themselves on if you drive under trees. You can turn them off but they come back on again on their own.
The only way to stop the on/off/on is to turn them
on manually and then they stay on continuously of course.

l would like to
a/ be able to turn off the automatic headlights, without having them
on all the time. (DRL's stay on)
b/ be able to turn on the side lights during the day.

Bring back the traditional light switch!

I have front DRLs ...... and REAR DRLs whist driving. The rear DRLs are only the small twin lamps, but better than none at all.

This was a major mod I did a few months ago, a mod which involved cutting into the rear lamp clusters.

the wire seen in the above photo is fed from a fused ignition live terminal in the rear fuse box.

this suits my purpose.

That's a nice modification, good work. Much safer than no rear lights

The easiest way to have your rear lights on during the day is just to turn the headlights on manually surely? Okay that puts the main headlights on as well but that’s not really an issue.

They won’t go off until you either turn them off, or put it back to auto.

That would be a great 'how to' if you ever fancy writing it up. Thumbs Up Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

Yes l guess you are right, you can't have too much light if it makes you easier to see by other drivers.
l just wondered if anything could be changed with GAP.

This is what the rear lights look like whilst driving in daylight. At night all 4 (each side) are illuminated.

I do now have the circuitry to turn off these lamps (red) when indicating (amber) and restore to DRLs. I hope to have this mod completed soon.
