England 2010 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Santorini Black
Brake help please
Hi all , I think i have a issue with my brakes but do not know where to start looking for problem .
2010 110 usw
Apply brake pedal pressure as normal and it feels spongy but if i take pressure of at halve way point and reapply . The brakes work as they should.
Checked fluid , which was correct level.
I would like to resolve this before becoming a issue .Any ideas ?

Yes, second the above. Jack up the wheels individually and check for play in the wheel bearings. This is because the design is such that if a wheel bearing is loose it will move from side to side and push back the caliper pistons. This then means that when you pump the brakes the first push takes up the gap between the caliper piston and disc, the second applies pressure.

Or they might need bleeding, usually due to be a leaky seal at the caliper or split pipe/ union / perished hose.

If they only do this when hot, a good start would be to change the fluid - the darker it is the older it is, as a guide.

It sounds like air in the system. Now uf you push the pedal up to a hard point and then travels further down then the master cylinder could be the culprit. Puma 110" SW
