Side Windows (again)
Greetings..🖖
A couple of weeks ago I drilled out the securing rivets and removed my side windows due to rain ingress. I'm really glad that I did.....

Yuk..!!

Cleaned the frames and sides up then refitted with copious amounts of Sikaflex and new rivets.
Now, feeling as smug as ......... a very smug thing I awaited the inevitable rain.

Censored me..!! It's still getting in...!!
It's not leaking in through the frame to side join so I've sorted that but rain seems to be getting in around the front edge of the glass and running down inside and dripping off the window runner. Hard to explain so I'll try to photo it....

I'm wondering if I have a seal missing..??
Anybody else ever had water dripping in and cured it (my initial thought was just to mastic the whole bloody lot shut/sealed)..??

That’s a real shame as you bit the bullet and did things properly.

Mine don’t leak but I sealed them up when I first got the Defender to stop rattles! Occasionally I wish they would open, but not very often.

I think if I were to remove them like you have, then I’d be replacing with the single fixed pane or the opening gullwing.

Having just looked at mine I think it’s possible that the vertical felt seal between the two panes might be suspect on yours?

Don’t forget that the ‘leak’ may be tracking in from somewhere else. Have you checked your alpine light seals and the join between the roof and gutter?

Good luck 🤞

I believe that the early frames have a joint somewhere (recall some screws as well), and possible that that joint is leaking. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Cheers both... 👍👍

Just taken some photos which show where the drips are (same on both near and off sides);

The rain seems to be making its way around the front edge of the glass and tracking down the inside, around the bottom corner then hitting the runner and dripping off...

There is a joint in the frame with two screws securing the halves of the frame together but these frames are never being separated from the sides again - not without wrecking the sides anyway.... 2002 Land Rover 110 Td5 Utility
