Sounds like the UJs are dry or tight. Anyway you can get some lube into them?

It does seem that way. Thinking back to how long I've had the shaft, its a few years since its been used and in that time it been in storage.
I have some three in 1 oil i could try or wd40. Its a pain the new part has got just a wee bit of play in one UJ. 1999 Defender TD5 110 Regards John M0VAZ Econet Station 48 no clock |

Forget WD40, its a poor lubricant (unless its their penetrating oil) its a great water dispersant and cleaner though. Suggest you use use the 3 in 1 oil 👌🏻 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

I found some 3 in 1 and also some GT85 spray with PTFE. The UJs got a good squirt with this and I left a pool of 3 in 1 in the UJ cup with the hope, the oil will seep in. 1999 Defender TD5 110

I had this problem after changing the upper steering shaft. It was simply that I had refitted the steering wheel with the indicator collar out by 90 degrees. Was quite a relief when I worked it out.
