The plugs have little lugs that fit into corresponding slots on the switches (red lines in my photo). They are different for every colour/switch combination so you can't mess them up. It's easy to cut off the lugs from a plug so it would fit a different or even any switch. But as Martin said, be careful! Know what you're doing. The switches are quite different on the inside and there's a reason for the coding.

Useful when you are rebuilding and converting switches for other purposes though! LR switches are very modular and with enough part you can convert latching to non latching.and vv, switched earthed to switched supply and vv, and with a few cuts and straps.you can make them do almost.anything.

exactly I repurposed one as a power switch, including voltage indicator.
I modified the internal circuit to make the LED independent of the switch Click image to enlarge |

Ok, so looks like the switch is goosed.
Ordered a replacement and going to swap the relay as well just cos I can. If this does not cure it, I suspect that there is a break in the harness to the tailgate....... Rgds. Chris |

It’s not the relay or anything downstream of the switch (including the rear door).
As I said before, the LED on the switch is switched on **internally** to the switch. If you press it, it should be coming on, even with no relay or window even fitted. Because it’s not coming on, then you have either a faulty switch or a supply issue to the switch. With a multimeter in volts mode, at the switch plug you should see 12V from the black wire to the white/green wire with the ignition switched on. This is the supply. If this is ok, with a small wire or bare metal paper clip bridge the white/green to white/black on the plug. The warning lamp in the instrument cluster will come on (and the relay will operate and turn on the window). If you don’t see 12V across black and white/green, you have a supply problem. It is unlikely to be the fuse as you would have other kit powered off (including headlights and instrument cluster). Could be a broken wire or pulled out terminal. If you do have 12V, and bridging to white/green to white/black works ok, then the switch is at fault. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |
