Door outer skin near waist seal acting as a bucket!!
I’m getting some soggy carpets in my 2011 110 - not unusual, I know. But front passenger is particularly bad and noticed that the base of the door waist seal doesn’t cover the outer skin of the door. I thought it might be the seal, so swapped it with the driver side but that seal did the same thing.

I’ve grabbed some photos and you can see the gap on the passenger side compared to the driver side. Is it normal to have enough variance in the door that there’s a gap? Can the outer skin be pulled tighter to the ridge the waist seal sits on?

The door card is off at the min so going to give everything a good clean, grease and fit a new inner shedder panel as the old one is damaged.

Should probably add that the seals are new and the gap is larger than it looks in the photos.

There’s slightly less of a gap on mine except for in the centre where there’s a random rivet head. Mind appears to be sitting slightly lower than yours and therefore sealing tighter.

Did you ‘help’ the seal down using a block of wood and a mallet?

Don’t forget that at either end you have a gap/hole where the seal sits behind the door skin. You may want to seal those.

Are you sure the water ingress isn’t from the million other known sources?

Good luck 👍

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I “tapped” it down and compared the height of the mounting ridge to the driver’s side and looks ok. You’re right though, it’s the middle that’s the issue where it widens. Drivers side is consistent along its length, give or take a mm.

My plan is to improve the shedding layer so it keeps the water inside the door and down to the drain holes, but reducing the water getting in there would be ideal. Will dig out the butyl tape and seal up the corners anyway.
