Evening all ...
Can somebody help please?? I've just been doing a bit of corrosion prevention under the bonnet and would appreciate your help please. Click image to enlarge Firstly (Number 1 in the picture) had some flaky surface rust on the plate held by six slotted screws. What's under the plate and why does it have a rubber seal?? I want to remove the six screws and replace with new ones ... Any problems to be aware off??? Secondly (Number 2 in the picture) is a purple wire coming through the bulkhead to a dead end (Insulated) ... comments please??? Many thanks John (Learning by the day ) 2010 Defender 90 300Tdi CW (White/1994) 2021 Defender 90 300Tdi SW (Blue/1994) |

1. Clutch master cylinder. The seal is to try keep water off your foot.
2. I don't know. |

Purple wire is typically for the door switches (purple blue or is it purple white?). I hazard a guess that this wire is for the bonnet switch that is not fitted on your car?

Hi Dinnu ... Yep, removed them today and as you say "Non standard". I'm very tempted to tap out to standard M5x0.8. One issue is getting the bottom left hand hole tapped because of the Brake Servo unit being in the way. 2010 Defender 90 300Tdi CW (White/1994) 2021 Defender 90 300Tdi SW (Blue/1994) Last edited by Cubflyer on 28th Oct 2023 9:56pm. Hi Dinnu ... Just a point of note, I elected to get a replacement Clutch cover and gasket (and screws) as mine were in poor shape. I ordered from "Boltonbits" (eBay item eBay Item No. 235181059981) and they arrived this morning. Cover and Gasket great but they supplied standard M5 slotted round heads. ... So I "Did" decide to tap out the original holes to M5. The bottom left hole was not straight forward because of the closeness to the back of the Brake Servo Unit. I took the M5 tap and put an 8BA spanner on the flats of the tap and eased it through that way. Disappointing to read the ebay advert that claims
Guess M5 would work, but I am the Original, Original, Original type of person. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |
