Old
Click image to enlarge and new I had a backing plate fabricated with the same size holes so no need to redrill the bumper and it's simple to change back for the MOT, producer etc |

Why would you worry about number plate size on a Defender? As Bobble said, 3 points straight away now. I got caught on a motorbike I had just bought with a plate that was only slightly smaller than standard. I didn't realise. Missed the points but got a 60.00 fine and a lecture.

Here's the offical DVLA line:
"Offences It is an offence to alter, rearrange or misrepresent letters or numbers in order to form names or words or in such a way that makes it difficult to read the registration number. Characters must not be moved from one block to the other e.g. AB51 DVL must not be displayed as AB5 1DVL or AB 51DVL. Vehicles with illegally displayed number plates may FAIL the MoT test. The police can also issue fixed penalty fines for illegally displayed number plates. Offenders are liable to a MAXIMUM FINE of £1,000 and in some cases the mark may be withdrawn." So, as far as I can see, they cannot give you points but can give you a fine - usually £60.00 (it rose from £30.00 in 2009 |

Do the letters not have to be a certain size too? Bikers seem to get pulled over a lot for having small number plates on the back. Could you not just stick the original on the bulkhead over the 'flap'? Seen that done a few times. |
