What sort of cost is involved for the day? Would it be worth getting a group together for those that fancy it/never done it? I know quite a few wouldn't be interested, but it wouldn't take that many of us to make it, would it?

Party Monkey, where are you? You might have gotten yourself another organising job! Smile

I'd be interested. Quite a trek from here but worth it. Could tie it in with some random business trip and claim it all back of course... Wink

they have a course in Devon! Get in contact with JST

Cheers - will do! Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.

Hmm - bit of a list:
Heated windscreen fitted
Steering guard fitted (from a forum member)
Exmoor Trim tub cover fitted (VERY nice)
New locking wheelnuts fitted (just as well - old "key" broke on last of the old nuts!)
Replaced old steel spare with one of the 5 new boost alloys with Conti (brand new from a forum member)

Still to do:
Replace all door card clips & screws
ACF-50 all internal doors
Replace key fob batteries to see if this will actually make all the doors lock / unlock at once! 2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey

Fitted a new front number plate
Old

and new

I had a backing plate fabricated with the same size holes so no need to redrill the bumper and it's simple to change back for the MOT, producer etc

Why would you worry about number plate size on a Defender? As Bobble said, 3 points straight away now. I got caught on a motorbike I had just bought with a plate that was only slightly smaller than standard. I didn't realise. Missed the points but got a 60.00 fine and a lecture.

Here's the offical DVLA line:

"Offences
It is an offence to alter, rearrange or misrepresent letters or numbers in order to form names or words or in such a way that makes it difficult to read the registration number. Characters must not be moved from one block to the other e.g. AB51 DVL must not be displayed as AB5 1DVL or AB 51DVL. Vehicles with illegally displayed number plates may FAIL the MoT test. The police can also issue fixed penalty fines for illegally displayed number plates. Offenders are liable to a MAXIMUM FINE of £1,000 and in some cases the mark may be withdrawn."

So, as far as I can see, they cannot give you points but can give you a fine - usually £60.00 (it rose from £30.00 in 2009

Do the letters not have to be a certain size too? Bikers seem to get pulled over a lot for having small number plates on the back.

Could you not just stick the original on the bulkhead over the 'flap'? Seen that done a few times.
