Removing rear shock insert from top pin mount
Any tips please. I’ve hit a wall replacing my rear shocks.
The old ones are old -though a new car to me- and though I’ve managed to get the shock body off, the metal insert sleeve inside the bush that fits over the chassis mounting pin is totally seized, though I have got the rest of the shock off.
Any further tips welcomed for its removal. Proving to be a right pain….!

Will I have to replace the mounting bracket:- if so, I’ll have to pick up a couple…but really wanted to crack on with the job. Thanks

Try to get a good gripper or a pipe wrench on the sleeve and see if you can twist it.
Else have to resort to an angle grinder and grind one side of the sleeve until it breaks free. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

You could try grinding along the side of the bush obviously not touching the mounting pin too much.... Or heat?
Otherwise a new mount, not too expensive

heat and hope or grind off the old one. it's a common issue

easiest way is take off the shock and bracket and do it on a bench or in a vice. i have spare top brackets over the hill in lancashire if you need a set

Thanks All.

Really helpful.

Also replacing springs so it’s also been a challenge to remove the bottom retaining plate as totally rusted, but cut through bolts eventually and thankfully had thought ahead to get new plates and bases.

Wish I had done the same with the upper shock mounts…. can anyone tell me what size bolts are also needed here as they are no doubt also going to need cutting off!

Huge thanks to StressedComa, who kindly took time out to drop off two brackets. A gent.
There was no way I was getting the old metal bush sleeves off!

All back together and lesson learnt…(?)
