Hi folk
I really know nothing about this subject so hope you'll bear with me. As far as I'm aware my 94 Defender 90 has never had it's Injector's or Glow-plugs changed. If I change them ... should/would I notice a difference in perforance? OR ... "If they work - leave them alone?" Many thanks John PS: If they should be changed ... what make are recommended? 2010 Defender 90 300Tdi CW (White/1994) 2021 Defender 90 300Tdi SW (Blue/1994) |

My 94 300tdi runs like clockwork and regularly hits 85-90mph. 175k on the clock and totally standard!
As far as I can tell the biggest thing (other than everything being well maintained) is to make sure timing is optimised during timing belt changes. I find the static setting is just the start and actually driving the vehicle then nudging the timing +/- 1 degree in either direction to find the sweet spot during test drives gives the best result. I would be a rich man if I had a pound for every time someone asks me how my Defender has been 'chipped/tweaked'..... I could also make a similar amount of money from the number of people who swear I am running locking diffs ![]() Recently at Dalton off-road site in the Lakes I had a bloke who just wouldn't accept it. Conversation was something like this.... "Ok, so you have open diffs, but they are locked really aren't they!" |

I may be way off track - but is it worth giving the fuel system an appropriate treatment - some injector cleaner?

Hi Screbble - An interesting thought and one I'd never considered! - thank you!
I'm always skeptical of these additives ... can anyone offer their experiences having used them ... Thanks John 2010 Defender 90 300Tdi CW (White/1994) 2021 Defender 90 300Tdi SW (Blue/1994) |

Hi, not a Defender but I ran a 200tdi in my 1966 series 2 and every couple of months I would pour in a diesel injector cleaner, in my opinion it worked as I kept that for 6 or 7 years with that engine and it pulled like a train albeit lighter than a defender I believe this additive definitely helped, the engine had done from memory 175k when we removed it from my mates Discovery and I averaged around 9/10 k miles a year commuting, Camping and visiting my mum in Axminster regularly

Hi Paul - Thanks very much for taking the time to reply.
Certainly thinking about doing it after reading a few reports ... it would be good to know how many others are doing it too. All the best John 2010 Defender 90 300Tdi CW (White/1994) 2021 Defender 90 300Tdi SW (Blue/1994) |

Garage I used recommended it - they have an diesel repair shop so I presume the advice was based on seeing vehicles where it was used and where it was not and practical observation of the injection parts on each.

Hi John, I’ve used STP and Wynns they both advertise to do the same job and I can’t say I noticed any difference between the two ie good results from both
