Any updates on Defender insurance premiums, good or bad?
Anyone renewed this month?

l've got a friend who has recently been quoted a renewal price of £3,000. She lives in Derbyshire. Just sold the Defender and bought a Porsche Macan. Premium for that is £600.

Hopefully this isn't representative.

Quoted circa £900 for Defender D250, full protected no claims, low risk Cheshire area - with Aviva. Also recently looked at a Macan T (2 litre) - cost was around £600. Defender seems to be seen as higher risk that similar £70k alternatives. Glad I don’t live in London!

Well that's not too bad. l can cope with up to £100 per month to insure my D250 Commercial, although currently it's £25 per month.

lf it was anywhere near £3,000 it would be sold, and back to an old Defender

April mines due for renewal. Churchill refused to insure my current 90, though they insured the 110 XS Edition. Currently it’s £52/month. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

BMW X5 last year was £254. In April this year I changed to the D300 Defender and it was an additional £9 for the remaining 4 months. Renewal in August was £499 with the same company. Did the usual comparison sites and my renewal was still the cheapest. Some horror quotes on there and as a comparison I could have insured an X5M (V8 600 hp) for the same! 110 D300 XD HSE, Carpathian, Tow pack. Air Susp pack, cold pack, hud,

Ok Moo, I’ll slide out of this conversation now! My 80% increase pales into insignificance with your renewal. That is absolutely outrageous. How can it be justified! I think LandRover sales will plummet if that keeps up as nobody would be willing (or able) to keep up with those increases. Perhaps there is a reason for the security upgrade but best someone informs the insurance companies. 110 D300 XD HSE, Carpathian, Tow pack. Air Susp pack, cold pack, hud,

l also did a comparison quote and was getting quotes of over £3,000

I then tried Direct Line and initially they wouldn't quote at all until l reduced the "vehicle value" to under £50,000 (according to WBAC it's currently worth £48,500)
Then it was £1,300

However my existing insurer, LV quoted £960 for both our vehicles on a multi car policy. £260 of that was for the Jimny.

l didn't even call them to discuss it l just renewed before they changed their mind.

This is what happened to one of my customers. Best renewal price £3,000. Sold it and bought a Porsche Macan which cost her £600 to insure.

Try LV ?

Some shocking quotes there.

For quite a while, JLR stopped selling their own LR insurance, presumably because claims were getting out of hand. Not a good look for the brand! My dealer indicated this would be restarted soon - I checked this morning and it appears that new quotes are now back up and running.

Need to organise mine in Jan so interested to hear how competitive or otherwise LR’s own insurance product is. Quotes from insurance providers linked to the manufacturer (not just JLR) have never been that competitive in the past but these are unusual times…

Tried the new LR insurance on my new Disco 5, couldn't quote due to high theft risk.

Tried it with my D250 Commercial, no option to quote for anything with less than five seats
