If you offered someone like that money to cut down a tree that needed to be felled would not get out of bed to do it.
Probably get community service. Should be forced to work on a wind swept hillside for a week or so. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

Words fail me, why a 16 year old child would do this, it just beggars belief
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-tyne-66952980 Hard to tell from that photo but that looks like our old 130 'Xray' which has sadly left the team now Cheers Ian -------------------- 22MY Defender 110 D200 SE, Fuji White. Kielder 4x4 Safari Instagram @defender_v8 |

Unfortunately ‘our’ kids are doing far worse on an increasingly regular basis. I too was absolutely flabbergasted when I saw the news about the tree. I’m afraid I immediately started to think about really unpleasant punishments for the offender. It’s all very sad and very infuriating. |

The felling cut is rubbish but that 16 year old has dropped a few years prior to this.

They should make a gallows out of the felled tree.
Hopefully the NT will leave it to regrow as a Coppice stool. |

Looks like good wood. It'd make a good few sycamore benches as well.

Truly remarkable that - besides the obvious big chunks and main trunk - there's hardly anything on the ground (eg. wood chips) indicative of a saw or other tool having been used to fell the tree.
With the suspect being a 16 y.o., I can't see any interest he might have had in felling the tree, other than perhaps something stupid like winning a wager or some kind of messed up rite of passage to prove how tough he is. Idiot... Defender 130 HCPU Td5 MY2000 |

It was apparently very windy during the night when it was felled, so it is likely that the chips were distributed far and wide by the wind.
I still feel that there is more to this than has yet become pubic. The white paint indicating the cut line, the fact that the youth arrested is 16 (an age where traditionally bone idleness dominates lifestyle), the fact that it meant carrying a reasonable-sized chainsaw some distance at night, the relative skill with which the deed was done, and the fact that crime appears to have been executed by a minor, all makes me think this was carefully planned by an adult with an agenda. No doubt time will tell. |
