Change your oil and filter in accordance with the service schedule and only use official parts! It is that simple, I had my used oil laboratory tested by an independent oil specialist who tests different oils in different engines for both car manufacturers and oil manufacturers, my oil had done only 6000 miles from new (new vehicle) and was told that the oil degradation was only at 16%, you would expect at the 6000 mile mark that this would be somewhere nearer the 50% mark. This is also quite remarkable considering that at least 2500 of these miles were towing.
To cut a long story short, engine tolerances, oils and fuels have all moved on a long way in the last few years and it is also worth while remembering that these engines are bench run before the vehicles leave the plant. Only think about more regular oil changes if your vehicle is used in extreme conditions. ![]() |

That's not the point though. It may well do the same job as the OEM, but it ISN'T the OEM. If there is an engine problem and a non-OEM filter is found, landrover WILL use it as the reason to not honour the warranty. The T&Cs of the warranty are crystal clear - you must use OEM parts, and in not doing so, the warranty is void. As MartinK said, for the sake of the difference, why use a non-OEM filter? Doesn't make sense. Same with fuel filters and even air filters. |

![]() I have on many occasions worked on my own vehicles using work facilities (no problem as long as I don't use oil/ lubes/ parts etc)- I will have to see if I have a picture of it next to an armored vehicle. I am always careful to make sure Land Rover don't know though....Knowing my luck the day I do something that they can see the engine would drop the bottom end out and Land Rover would just mug me off. From experience, a Land Rover dealership (our local one anyway) will use every excuse in the book to avoid a warranty claim. No thought behind it. No compromise. No customer service or loyalty towards their customers. They are impossible to deal with. In fact I hate going anywhere near the workshop.

That's interesting. I guess the local LR dealer you refer to is part of the Helston group and I bet I can guess which one ![]() My local dealer, also part of the Helston group, is the exact opposite. They have never tried to get out of any warranty claim and, if there have been any issues, it is normally LR themselves that have caused the problem not the dealer. I might have to haggle with them at times but that is life. Bob |

Most of the farmers I see travel to Roger Young as he isn't part of the Helston Garages, or County over in Barnstaple. Helstone are very aggressive at taking money off people and have absolutely no idea what customer service is all about. They always take and never give. Short termism - not thinking about building customer relationships over the long term. But people still go back...
I started with an open mind, wanting to work along side the dealership, but that has changed very quickly. I get on well with the parts dept guys as they bend over backwards to help me, which then indirectly helps my customers. The rest can rot for all I care. But like the Murphy's, I'm not bitter (much). ![]() I don't have many dealings with Yeovil. I do have customers who won't deal with them from past experiences. |

I found our local dealer (who didn't actually supply my used Disco3) couldn't have been more helpful when I had a gear change issue under warranty, all fixed along with a new load space cover (old one kept falling out) new air bag on steering wheel (old one was peeling the leather off) and a new something at the front, track rod I think.
They had an inspector down to look at everything and all agreed which was a surprise as the airbag and load space cover were like it when I bought it! Gear change part was £3.60 plus £120 labour, I know that as it's out of warranty now and just cost me to have it done again - duh ![]() I think I'll be changing oil early on when I get the new 110, sounds like a good idea. Need to do a search on here now for 'running in' instructions, or is that a a thing of the past now? DJ |

funnily enough on my father in law's MY10 there is a paragraph on running in in the owner's handbook but this has been deleted in my MY11 book. I'm sure some running in process is good practice although I doubt there's a single Transit where care has been excercised during the first 1k miles. Anyone I've ever met who drives a company van seems to make it their life mission to break them !
