2010 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Santorini Black

coolant cap woes

a little while ago i noticed the distinctive hot coolant smell and looked under the bonnet after a 2 hour drive and found that the coolant tank cap was passing, even more evident when cool due to the satins on the tank, i have since changed the cap for an Iveco version which is recommended on here but still it happens? I've recently changed the tank for an Optimil aluminium one with sight gauge and flushed the system, added new antifreeze nut still after a 2 hour journey have the same issue

I always have my Ultrgauge on and the temperature from the CHT will hover around 83-96c
83 average motorway cruising 96 big uphill section.
haven't towed my caravan with the defender for a while but the temp would go to 110c up a big hill but never had any issues.

what would cause the cap to discharge? obviously pressure but what causes it? 2023 Defender L663 V8

Check over the entire coolant system for loose hose clips, cracks, slits or evidence of leaks. Worst it could be is a cracked head or head gasket gone.

Would a leak cause the coolant cap to discharge?

It’s gives a hiss on occasions when hot.

Wasn’t expecting head gasket to be honest
