Rear forward seat - modified for more reclining
Has anyone modified rear forward facing seats such that they can recline a bit more?

Reason for this question… I like to make more road trips with the Defender, a 90, but seems the car (an aging Golf) is still being voted for long road trips by the rest of the family Sad as they consider it as more comfortable and easier on the kids on the rear bench seat. The 90 is quite tight with luggage between the rear forward facing seats Crying or Very sad

I do like a 110, but parking size/ garage space required puts me off. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Yes, I have done this to the 3rd row seats in my 110 Puma some years back.
Do not expect to gain a lot, however I have had no adverse effect, so no reason not to do it.

Unfortunately I have no pictures to share, but once the necessary trim and plastics are removed to reveal the mechanism it shall be relatively obvious as to what must be done. For each seat, it requires removing one round bush on one side and one steel washer on the other side. The steel washer is point welded to the seat frame, an angle grinder is your friend to take it out easily.

When I picked up my rear seats from a forum member, they also came with a kit to allow more reclining of the rear seats. I can take pics if you want Dinnu ? 1999 Defender TD5 110

Thank you for the replies. I admit I have not done any investigation, but will do … the question popped into my mind as currently traveling with the car as SWMO makes all excuses not to use the Defender Big Cry

Excossak, are the Td5 seats with same mechanism? 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

No probs.
I wonder if front seat reclining mechanism can be adapted to fit? 1999 Defender TD5 110

That could also be something as the front seat backs are able to go flat on the base if they do not hit the dash. But I hope I find something that only needs minor modification to the current seat frame. Need to find time to investigate Mat’s suggestion too 👍 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
