Which would almost certainly result in the studs pulling out eventually, then you'll have to do it all again except this time fit Helicoils or Timeserts, assuming that there is enough material in the block to allow this, or replace the block if there isn't.

Is that really a path you want to take on a rare and historic vehicle? Do it right, do it once.

Block is 3/8 unc.

Managed to drill out and tap.
Got all the others cleaned up and ready to go.
Put fresh stainless steel studs in the ones that I got out and keep my fingers crossed that all holds together.

Just waiting for my manifolds and exhaust to turn up now.

Hopefully back up and running at the weekend. (To a fashion anyway)

So.

Fitted the manifolds and the down pipe.
Got the wing back on.
Struggling to fit the td5 centre box, may need cutting and welding. Grrr!

Still, it’s back up and running.

I’m ordering the ecu and associated parts next week.
Ordered the tank of eBay after negotiating a price.

New tyres need ordering as well. Is 235 85 R16 the standard size for these wheels?

I’ve also seen 235 70 16. Fitted to these wheels. Much cheaper tyre size.

What’s the view of the masses? I won’t be off road, just weekend road use. Maybe 1-3k miles a year if that.

Td5 box does fit, maybe a case of fitting some new mounts?

NAS and 50th Anniversary were originally fitted with either 265 75 R16 BFG AT or MT depending on MY. JB

Don’t fit those 235 70s. Way too small and look dreadful!

235 85 do fit, have the correct profile and tend to be cheaper and more available that 265 75 R16.

But they’re not quite right for the car.

Davanti Terratouras are available in 265 75 R16. About £125 a pop from Camskill and come highly recommended. JB

Thanks. And thanks for all the help so far. It’s much appreciated.

When I start on the gas rip out and petrol re instatement I will be on here every day I would imagine.

It’s a bit of a nightmare tbh.

Bits of lhd/bits of rhd. Wiring diagrams don’t match to anything.
Locations are all different. Has Ecus in for start timer, engine check ecu. Wires have been cut and joined by either land rover of previous owners.

I really need a crimp that I just can’t find. Don’t suppose anyone is one for sale?
Maybe someone who has done a td5 upgrade. I need to get the dog lamp light wired in with warning light and I want to use the factory lamp in the binnacle. This means I just need a pin crimp or a used plug with a few inches of wire connected.

So.

Booked in for mot next week.
Have fitted all new brakes. Fixed most of the oil leaks.
Temporary wired fog warning lamp until I find a crimp.
Ordered 4 new standard tyres.
Got the centre box to fit to a fashion. Think the issue is the front section being manufactured slightly to cock!

Have ordered tank and the pump and sender are on their way.
Ordered hoses and filter.

Will order ecu next week, am going down the cux route as it’s easier and can utilise what I have already. I will never know what it had out the factory so it’s a punt.

I’m hoping to get it back on the road on petrol within a few weeks.

Also stated collecting the bits for lowering the suspension back to normal height.

Will be putting some wanted ads out soon as well.

Thanks for all the help people have given me so far. It’s forums like this that make rebuilding old cars possible.

Great progress.

Couple of thoughts. Have you identified the ECU as a 14 cux? Just that the sensors on the engine are more likely to be GEMS.

Also it looks like you’re missing the front near side bump stop, which will be an MOT failure. JB

The car would definitely not have been a development for the 50th. Hardtop NAS models had been available in 94/95 when LR ditched the removable fibreglass hardtop that proved to be hopelessly fragile and too much faff to remove. In truth, the 50th was a convenient way for LR to shift NAS stock when the NAS90 was effectively outlawed from the US in 98 because of its lack of airbags etc.

FWIW, When this was for sale I sent the ad to a friend.
This was his response…

“I went to see this in a Birmingham scrap yard around 98/99.
It’s a factory LPG conversion when LR were thinking of offering factory fitted units.
It had no docs with it because LR had officially scrapped it so that’s why I didn’t buy it.”

Personally I’d junk all of the gas kit (LPG is for forklift trucks!) and get it back to a stock V8 set up. Nobody really cares about some one-off factory LPG conversion and it’ll always be worth less than something running on proper fuel.

Hi. Yes thanks for your input. did you read my original post?

I purchased this as a project car to keep me busy. I always wanted a v8 and now I have one.
It was scrapped and I know this because it’s on a q plate. That has never been disputed.

Apart from the gas it’s in excellent condition and will make an excellent car when finished.

It doesn’t really matter about its history anyway, it’s what it will be like when it’s finished.
