Sound deadening
Evening all
Ready to start sound deadening my 90 TD5 station wagon
I’ve ordered silent coat matting ( 110 pack so I’ve enough to cover roof, all of rear and front.)
Also 4 m2 of dodo matting 8mm. ( plan on doing rear tub and roof ).
Currently my front carpet doesn’t go under the seats so going to change for one that does .
Anyone any tips

Good luck! I did the whole (floor area) of my 110 double cab earlier this year. I used skinz and then a layer of dodo barrier mat everywhere plus silent coat noise buffer in the footwells.

It has made a huge difference. Haven’t done the roof or doors yet. I also used flashing tape to seal all the skinz and flexi sealant if I could still see any daylight. I did the Billing course this year and not a single drop of water got in - so I also think the advantage of sound proofing is water proofing!

My only tips would be get a good sharp Stanley knife. Be prepared it will take 3 times as long as you think and buy loads of spray adhesive for the dodo barrier and carpet.

It’s actually quite fun…. Just take your time.

My other tip was remember where the seat bolt holes are as you go! If like me you do 2 or 3 layers you can suddenly find yourself underneath poking holes into the second row seat bolt holes to re-locate them under all that matting.

It’s a satisfying job to do. Sharp knife and take your time. I used a glue called “grabfast” it allows you to peal up and restick

Morning.

I did my 110 a few months ago. Bought the 110 kit.. then more! I used scissors rather than a knife to cut. The 6mm Dodo I used (also everywhere) was stickier than a sticky thing.. so certainly no extra glue needed there. What tool the time was the rollering. That makes a huge difference to the fit.. and it’s quite satisfying as you see it from.

3 layers in the doors took me a day.. 2 laters on the tunnel.

I’ve just the bonnet left to do.. but already it’s an incredible change, especially at speed.

Well worth doing mine is quieter now than my everyday fiat panda.

We can talk normally at 70, the radio volume is at least 25% lower for the same effect. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I’d be interested to hear if you think the bonnet makes a difference. I hear differing opinions especially with the puma.

I did the bonnet of my 2015 2.2 TDCi and it made a huge difference. It totally removed the diesel rattle. I took the bonnet off to stick down the Dodo matt stuff.

For the cab I used Wright Off Road matting. Tuff stuff to work with but again made a big improvement to the noise. I don't need to adjust the radio volume from idle to motorway speeds.

I have just fitted some used TD5 Disco rear engine and bell housing sound proofing panels and it made a big difference... so much so that Mrs JVK even commented. Very Happy
LBH100360 for the rear of engine and not sure on the bell housing - lots on ebay

Has anybody fitted the Noise killer kit?

I know this is bad of me, but I've recently found a complete unopened set in storage. It's pretty hefty packaging so feels substantial enough.

Dynamat along with XS carpet has been sufficient enough mind you.

I fitted the Noisekiller kit approx. 8 - 9 years ago. Made a big difference. Included the engine ‘blanket.’
Didn’t really know about Dynamat at the time - but that’s clearly the preferred brand/product.
Don’t hear much about Noisekiller these days…
