Best use a code reader to get diagnostic trouble codes.that will help diagnose and locate issue. However looks like it’s an abs sensor / abs issue.
You can get a vLinker MC+ For about £53 and use the torque app (free) or torque pro app (circa£5) to read and clear codes from your phone. |

There are other elm327 readers that are a lot cheaper, but I don’t advocate connecting cheap Chinese electronics to expensive ECU’s.
VLinker are Chinese but of good quality from vgate , just make sure you get from vGate themselves, else you may get a fake copy ! I think they have a shop on amazon so if you have prime you can get it quick. As a generic reader you can use on any vehicle with an OBD2 port, plus it can run more detailed vehicle diagnostics for GM and ford vehicles when using vehicle specific apps. Once you have the DTC’s record them , then delete them. This should take your vehicle out of limp mode. You can then do a search on the net of the DTC’s and their possible cause, and post on this topic so the forum members can help. Also once DTC’s cleared drive the vehicle a short distance to see if the DTC’s are triggered again. Ps. While awaiting your reader have a look under the vehicle at the ABS sensors at each wheel to see if the wiring and connectors are ok. In addition it could be one of the ABS sensors not seating correctly. The DTCs will point to which one if that’s the case. |

Cheers for the guidance again Ian.
So I borrowed an ODB reader from my brother and it gave me the code P2127 (Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch 'E' Circuit Low has been detected). I cleared the code and tried it again and still had the lights and error. I think checked the wires by the pedal and pushed the connectors together, cleared the codes and tried again and the lights were gone and it was out of limp mode. Took it for a spin up the road for abit and so far so good. I only have a few short trips tomorrow so will see how it goes. Fingers crossed it was a loose conncection or something. Take the connections apart and spray some electrical contact cleaner on them, then put them
back, and the fault is less likely to return in the future. |

I'm not saying this was the case as I don't know what tool you used, but a generic obd reader wouldn't be capable of reading abs /dsc fault codes unless it had the the necessary software installed.. If its just obd then it wouldn't, I don't think.. |

I've been wanting to get a code reader for a while as I also have an intermittent limp mode problem so thanks for the info!

It’s basically a copy of the OBD2Link MX+ device, but at half the price. The only difference is the OBD2Link device has a communication chip that can run twice as fast as the vGate one. However the current OBD2 specs can’t make use of the extra speed. So the gen vGate MC+ is a good buy. Note. If you have a 2.4 you can run the forscan app to give you more specific TDCI diagnostics. This is not the case for the 2.2 |

Yes i know what you mean, my wording should probably have indicated that generic obd only has access to the powertrain module and the codes that are relevant to it..
It doesn't include abs, instrument cluster and the manufacturer specific codes that can be generated.. That's what I have found with the couple tools I've used.. Obd is a separate section in the menu and can not look at all the installed ecus on the car....on my defender the only modules installed are instrument cluster, abs and pcm..that is the network and an obd reader can't access the instrument cluster or abs on the network without the necessary software.. that's the way I've found it to be anyway.. |
